Matt Farr Biography

Matt Farr’s new self-titled debut solo release features music that Farr has recently written as well as a few tracks that have developed over time. The songs are about his life journey and the highs and lows along the way. Matt states that these tunes are going to be the most open, true representation of his personality and talents as an artist. It will express the down times, as well as the great times, just like what life deals everyone. Matt hopes he can bring across a musical journey that reaches out to the listener, and once it ends, they want to start over again at track one.

A true native of Florida, Farr tirelessly pursued making music over the past 20 years - chasing the goal, living the adventure, and loving every bit of it - Farr has established himself as one of the more original singer/songwriters around. Sitting at the keyboards and singing for numerous original groups and artists over the past 10 years, Matt has recently put it all aside to focus on recording and performing his own original material. Farr recorded the album with long time friend, Craig Stevens. Stevens is also the co-writer of track 3 “Crying Sun”. The album also features world class musicians; Craig Barnette, Pete Winders, and Eric Brigmond. Enveloped in the throw-back vintage, Billy Joel-like sound, it is a funky yet very easy to listen to mixture of dynamic instrumentation and catchy melody lines. Taking the music on the road is Farr’s next step, looking to broaden his fan base and make this project his most successful yet."Playing music is true happiness to me, I just want to do it at a very high level, and hopefully share that vibe with all the music fans I come across each and every day", says Farr.

Influenced by cases full of tapes and shelves full of old LP's  ranging from jazz greats, to 60's rock icons, to reggae masters, and modern day hipsters, Farr hopes to bring all he has learned and experienced to the live stage. With both parents’ musicians themselves, Farr was born into a musical environment that was contagious and natural for him. Farr now wants to channel his goals and ambition on being a great live performer and songwriter . "I just want to soak it all up and follow the road those artists have paved with my own flare", says Farr.

Farr’s past projects include a 2007 collaboration called Vanilla Monk formed between Farr and fellow musician friends Audrey Assad and  Craig Stevens. After many months of working on the music and recording the album the CD was released Sept 2007. The groups CD took on more of a down-tempo vibe (which blends electronic type textures, with a little vintage 70's tone) Farr steadily performed around the South Florida area with Vanilla Monk on lead vocals and keys. The group’s early success included opening slots for numerous national acts at some of the area’s largest music festivals and placement in the 2008 Grammy Award’s gift bag.
